Dream Cloud Springs

Dream Cloud Springs is a pavilion designed for the London Design Festival and Mattel, inspired by the architecture of Palm Springs and the history of the Barbie Dreamhouse.

An inflatable cloud canopy hovers above a landscape of water, sand and stone. Beneath it, a kidney-shaped pool, pink marble walkways, slender stone columns and desert planting reinterpret familiar elements of Palm Springs and Barbie's world as a playful public landscape. Developed in collaboration with Webb Yates Engineers, the pavilion also explores the potential of structural stone, using slender marble columns and cantilevering walkways to test new approaches to low-carbon construction.

Designed as a place to play, meet and explore, the pavilion combines climbing rocks, seating, water and a 1:6 scale Dreamhouse. By night, the cloud becomes a screen for the desert sky, while the biodegradable canopy was designed to be reused after the festival.
